Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the REITs, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lundin Gold Inc (TSX:LUG), which rose 5.29% or 1.10 points to trade at 21.91 at the close. Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) added 5.01% or 1.22 points to end at 25.58 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) was up 4.70% or 0.23 points to 5.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which lost 4.64% or 0.88 points to trade at 18.10 in late trade. Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb) declined 3.19% or 2.19 points to end at 66.55 and Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) shed 2.77% or 0.39 points to 13.71.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 550 to 372 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.79% to 8.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.32% or 31.55 to $2,366.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.07% or 0.89 to hit $82.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.98% or 0.85 to trade at $85.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 104.68.
