Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL), which rose 6.10% or 0.67 points to trade at 11.66 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) added 5.86% or 0.51 points to end at 9.22 and Empire Company Ltd (TSX:EMPa) was up 5.38% or 1.74 points to 34.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which lost 6.80% or 5.57 points to trade at 76.40 in late trade. Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) declined 5.70% or 1.51 points to end at 24.99 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) shed 3.43% or 0.60 points to 16.89.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 574 to 384 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 8.11% to 9.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.08% or 25.25 to $2,372.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.77% or 0.62 to hit $81.33 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.67 to trade at $85.74 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.52% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.40% at 105.30.
