Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.30% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY), which rose 14.89% or 6.24 points to trade at 48.14 at the close. Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX:MFI) added 11.70% or 3.21 points to end at 30.65 and Primo Water Corp (TSX:PRMW) was up 10.62% or 2.20 points to 22.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD), which lost 28.30% or 34.74 points to trade at 88.02 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 6.80% or 9.86 points to end at 135.31 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) shed 6.29% or 12.47 points to 185.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 543 to 475 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 17.29.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.68% or 29.65 to $1793.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.41% or 1.95 to hit $78.91 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.82% or 1.49 to trade at $80.50 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.51% to 0.8027, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.6948.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 94.332.
