Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate, REITs and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG), which rose 9.33% or 0.43 points to trade at 5.04 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) added 8.45% or 1.36 points to end at 17.45 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) was up 6.68% or 2.51 points to 40.11 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trillium Therapeutics Inc (TSX:TRIL), which lost 7.63% or 1.41 points to trade at 17.08 in late trade. Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) declined 4.69% or 2.42 points to end at 49.14 and Cameco Corp (TSX:CCO) shed 4.19% or 0.69 points to 15.77.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 598 to 410 and 111 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.52% or 27.95 to $1868.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.51% or 0.27 to hit $53.25 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.11 to trade at $56.01 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.71% to 0.7905, while CAD/EUR rose 0.90% to 0.6530.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 90.483.
