Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG), which rose 14.42% or 0.62 points to trade at 4.92 at the close. Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) added 10.78% or 0.91 points to end at 9.35 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) was up 9.42% or 0.50 points to 5.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Stelco Holdings Inc (TSX:STLC), which lost 6.58% or 3.25 points to trade at 46.15 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 5.59% or 9.09 points to end at 153.56 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) shed 4.90% or 7.72 points to 149.87.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 563 to 445 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.16% or 2.95 to $1795.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.08% or 0.75 to hit $70.47 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.57 to trade at $73.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.26% to 0.7899, while CAD/EUR rose 0.33% to 0.6690.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 92.648.
