Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Industrials and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.07% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Mining Corp (TSX:EDV), which rose 8.71% or 2.020 points to trade at 25.220 at the close. Encana Corporation (TSX:ECA) added 8.35% or 0.49 points to end at 6.36 and Finning International Inc . (TSX:FTT) was up 7.58% or 1.80 points to 25.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TSX:GC), which lost 7.62% or 3.16 points to trade at 38.30 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) declined 6.80% or 0.200 points to end at 2.740 and Osisko Gold Ro (TSX:OR) shed 5.00% or 0.64 points to 12.16.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 546 to 515 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.46% to 10.82.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.63% or 24.65 to $1486.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.26% or 0.71 to hit $57.25 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.43% or 0.89 to trade at $63.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7601, while CAD/EUR rose 0.48% to 0.6864.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 97.745.
