Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.05% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 15.19% or 3.000 points to trade at 22.750 at the close. Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) added 12.46% or 2.15 points to end at 19.40 and Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) was up 11.96% or 3.600 points to 33.690 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 9.72% or 5.05 points to trade at 46.88 in late trade. Keyera Corp . (TSX:KEY) declined 5.14% or 1.36 points to end at 25.12 and Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS) shed 3.72% or 6.87 points to 177.77.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 529 to 497 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.34% or 6.30 to $1843.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.48% or 0.28 to hit $58.64 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.23 to trade at $61.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7876, while CAD/EUR fell 0.05% to 0.6495.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 90.388.
