Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, Industrials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which rose 7.38% or 1.35 points to trade at 19.64 at the close. Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) added 7.08% or 1.65 points to end at 24.96 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) was up 5.51% or 0.42 points to 8.04 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which lost 3.31% or 0.16 points to trade at 4.67 in late trade. Alimentation Couche Tard Inc (TSX:ATD) declined 2.99% or 2.38 points to end at 77.12 and Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) shed 2.67% or 0.77 points to 28.11.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 529 to 420 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.69% to 8.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.93% or 21.60 to $2,309.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.20% or 0.16 to hit $80.67 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $84.23 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 105.74.
