Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Norbord Inc (TSX:OSB), which rose 8.31% or 3.61 points to trade at 47.07 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 5.65% or 1.25 points to end at 23.38 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 4.81% or 58.55 points to 1276.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TSX:WFT), which lost 4.58% or 3.35 points to trade at 69.76 in late trade. Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TSX:VII) declined 3.14% or 0.16 points to end at 4.94 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) shed 3.13% or 0.66 points to 20.45.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 527 to 461 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.50% or 9.45 to $1864.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.57% or 0.24 to hit $41.77 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.28 to trade at $44.06 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.11% to 0.7651, while CAD/EUR rose 0.04% to 0.6450.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 92.352.
