Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrials, Energy and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT), which rose 2.89% or 2.70 points to trade at 96.25 at the close. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) added 2.79% or 0.25 points to end at 9.20 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX:PD) was up 2.17% or 1.67 points to 78.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Empire Company Ltd (TSX:EMPa), which lost 3.55% or 1.38 points to trade at 37.53 in late trade. Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) declined 2.07% or 1.23 points to end at 58.24 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) shed 1.82% or 0.06 points to 3.24.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 539 to 375 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.18% to 12.56.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.03% or 0.50 to $1,993.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.92% or 0.71 to hit $76.39 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.70 to trade at $81.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.25% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 103.66.
