Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Health Care, Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aimia Inc. (TO:AIM), which rose 5.84% or 0.75 points to trade at 13.60 at the close. Pembina Pipeline Corporation (TO:PPL) added 4.30% or 1.72 points to end at 41.70 and Valeant Pharmaceuticals Inc (TO:VRX) was up 3.52% or 8.68 points to 254.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which lost 6.80% or 0.49 points to trade at 6.72 in late trade. Autocanada Inc (TO:ACQ) declined 6.78% or 3.23 points to end at 44.39 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) shed 6.54% or 0.17 points to 2.43.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 773 to 718 and 163 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was up 2.39% to 15.02.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.61% or 7.40 to $1205.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 0.00% or 0.01 to hit $49.77 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 4.29% or 2.69 to trade at $59.90 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.30% to 0.7975, while CAD/EUR fell 0.17% to 0.7133.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 95.51.
