Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Information Technology and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.24% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Sherritt International Corporation (TO:S), which rose 11.48% or 0.24 points to trade at 2.33 at the close. Amaya Gaming Group Inc (TO:AYA) added 7.79% or 2.46 points to end at 34.02 and Dream Unlimited Corp (TO:DRM) was up 7.48% or 0.67 points to 9.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K), which lost 5.90% or 0.22 points to trade at 3.51 in late trade. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) declined 4.09% or 0.11 points to end at 2.58 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) shed 3.78% or 0.11 points to 2.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 861 to 625 and 198 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was up 1.03% to 17.64.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.68% or 8.30 to $1229.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 2.67% or 1.36 to hit $52.58 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 3.53% or 2.09 to trade at $61.37 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.38% to 0.8023, while CAD/EUR rose 0.49% to 0.7043.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 94.24.
