Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Real Estate, Basic Materials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3), which rose 4.86% or 1.12 points to trade at 24.18 at the close. Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA:CYRE3) added 3.62% or 0.41 points to end at 11.75 and Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) was up 2.66% or 1.19 points to 46.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3), which lost 4.27% or 0.27 points to trade at 6.06 in late trade. Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) declined 3.77% or 1.09 points to end at 27.80 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) shed 2.17% or 0.69 points to 31.06.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 184 to 179 and 30 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.37% to 35.03.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.82% or 9.65 to $1183.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.91% or 2.11 to hit $51.88 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.32% or 1.89 to trade at $144.57 .
USD/BRL was down 0.84% to 3.1972, while EUR/BRL fell 0.54% to 3.3772.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.17% at 102.00.
