Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 2.01% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which rose 49.30% or 7.00 points to trade at 21.20 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6) added 32.08% or 5.72 points to end at 23.55 and CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4) was up 8.58% or 0.68 points to 8.61 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3), which lost 1.11% or 0.08 points to trade at 7.10 in late trade. Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) declined 0.66% or 0.15 points to end at 22.55 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) shed 0.57% or 0.10 points to 17.55.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 250 to 129 and 46 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.03% to 25.85.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.42% or 5.47 to $1291.23 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.21% or 0.10 to hit $47.63 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.59% or 0.77 to trade at $129.30 .
USD/BRL was up 0.08% to 3.1679, while EUR/BRL fell 0.36% to 3.7265.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 93.42.
