Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Basic Materials and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.69% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were SLC Agricola SA (BVMF:SLCE3), which rose 6.59% or 1.15 points to trade at 18.60 at the close. CSN Mineracao SA (BVMF:CMIN3) added 5.01% or 0.26 points to end at 5.45 and Sao Martinho SA (BVMF:SMTO3) was up 4.92% or 1.61 points to 34.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sendas Distribuidora SA (BVMF:ASAI3), which lost 3.48% or 0.36 points to trade at 9.98 in late trade. Companhia Brasileira De Distribuica (BVMF:PCAR3) declined 2.96% or 0.08 points to end at 2.62 and Vibra Energia SA (BVMF:VBBR3) shed 2.31% or 0.47 points to 20.03.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 489 to 482 and 38 ended unchanged on the B3 Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.78% to 26.28.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.09% or 2.10 to $2,341.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.26% or 1.84 to hit $83.38 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.67% or 1.52 to trade at $225.28 .
USD/BRL was up 1.05% to 5.65, while EUR/BRL rose 3.06% to 6.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 105.49.
