Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Information Technology, Telecommunication Services and Health Care sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Sundance Energy Australia Ltd (ASX:SEA), which rose 6.93% or 0.035 points to trade at 0.540 at the close. Kathmandu Holdings Ltd (ASX:KMD) added 5.99% or 0.085 points to end at 1.505 and Sirtex Medical Ltd (ASX:SRX) was up 4.46% or 1.540 points to 36.080 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Monadelphous Group Ltd (ASX:MND), which lost 10.02% or 0.98 points to trade at 8.80 in late trade. BC Iron Ltd (ASX:BCI) declined 7.41% or 0.030 points to end at 0.375 and Horizon Oil Ltd (ASX:HZN) shed 7.14% or 0.010 points to 0.130.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 326 to 249 and 42 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.12% to 14.893.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.39% or 4.60 to $1161.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 0.10% or 0.05 to hit $50.05 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.01 to trade at $58.45 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.75% to 0.7648, while AUD/JPY fell 0.23% to 93.14.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.45% at 98.07.
