Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Real Estate and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.86% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which rose 14.97% or 0.28 points to trade at 2.15 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) added 9.90% or 0.19 points to end at 2.11 and Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) was up 9.59% or 0.47 points to 5.37 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Oi SA (SA:OIBR3), which lost 8.53% or 0.11 points to trade at 1.18 in late trade. Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) declined 8.28% or 1.21 points to end at 13.40 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) shed 6.89% or 0.75 points to 10.13.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 165 to 132 and 29 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.50% to 51.90.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 1.14% or 14.30 to $1271.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.81% or 0.31 to hit $37.98 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.13% or 0.16 to trade at $122.22 .
USD/BRL was down 1.73% to 3.6211, while EUR/BRL fell 0.10% to 4.0495.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.05% at 96.17.
