Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Primero Mining Corp (TO:P), which rose 13.71% or 0.270 points to trade at 2.240 at the close. Barrick Gold Corporation (TO:ABX) added 6.15% or 1.08 points to end at 18.63 and New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD) was up 5.97% or 0.25 points to 4.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb), which lost 11.15% or 1.04 points to trade at 8.29 in late trade. Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) declined 10.12% or 0.70 points to end at 6.22 and Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) shed 9.05% or 0.36 points to 3.62.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 734 to 459 and 367 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.22% to 25.79.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 1.33% or 16.10 to $1226.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 4.79% or 1.60 to hit $31.79 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 4.41% or 1.53 to trade at $33.16 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.41% to 0.7266, while CAD/EUR fell 0.35% to 0.6594.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 97.47.
