Investing.com – Russia equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Oil & Gas and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX lost 1.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were Sollers (MCX:SVAV), which rose 3.22% or 14.0 points to trade at 449.0 at the close. Aeroflot (MCX:AFLT) added 2.44% or 0.99 points to end at 41.49 and MTS (MCX:MTSS) was up 1.76% or 4.70 points to 271.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NLMK ao (MCX:NLMK), which lost 3.69% or 2.68 points to trade at 70.01 in late trade. Yandex NV (MCX:YNDX) declined 3.58% or 35.00 points to end at 944.00 and Severstal - ao (MCX:CHMF) shed 3.45% or 21.30 points to 595.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 122 to 65 and 10 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 7.37% to 32.570 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 2.03% or 24.20 to $1216.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.99% or 0.60 to hit $61.35 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.53% or 1.03 to trade at $68.41 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 1.76% to 49.152, while EUR/RUB fell 0.36% to 55.836.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.12% at 93.64.
