Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Utilities, Consumer & Cyclical and Food & Beverages sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.71%, while the MDAX index added 0.91%, and the TecDAX index gained 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 6.81% or 0.905 points to trade at 14.190 at the close. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) added 3.30% or 2.710 points to end at 84.890 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was up 2.83% or 0.248 points to 9.026 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 2.65% or 0.335 points to trade at 12.325 in late trade. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) declined 1.29% or 0.880 points to end at 67.470 and SAP AG O.N. (DE:SAPG) shed 0.83% or 0.560 points to 67.160.
The top performers on the MDAX were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which rose 4.75% to 5.16, Osram Licht AG (F:OSRn) which was up 3.46% to settle at 46.397 and Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which gained 3.35% to close at 115.700.
The worst performers were Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was down 2.13% to 23.71 in late trade, RTL Group SA (DE:RRTL) which lost 1.87% to settle at 73.340 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 1.71% to 40.830 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which rose 5.65% to 36.435, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which was up 4.34% to settle at 14.795 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which gained 3.94% to close at 14.500.
The worst performers were Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which was down 2.85% to 34.440 in late trade, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which lost 1.72% to settle at 51.990 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 1.70% to 3.693 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 617 to 262 and 29 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 24.76.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.31% or 4.05 to $1322.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.31% or 1.15 to hit $48.73 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.40% or 1.23 to trade at $50.09 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.42% to 1.1077, while EUR/GBP rose 0.93% to 0.8363.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 96.17.
