Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Software, Consumer & Cyclical and Media sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 1.63%, while the MDAX index gained 2.12%, and the TecDAX index added 0.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were SAP AG O.N. (DE:SAPG), which rose 3.70% or 2.650 points to trade at 74.250 at the close. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 3.33% or 3.900 points to end at 120.950 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) was up 3.02% or 2.370 points to 80.950 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which lost 2.08% or 0.305 points to trade at 14.350 in late trade. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) declined 0.56% or 0.090 points to end at 16.090 and K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) shed 0.31% or 0.065 points to 20.650.
The top performers on the MDAX were GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which rose 7.62% to 36.240, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which was up 5.31% to settle at 27.570 and Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which gained 4.69% to close at 29.155.
The worst performers were Tag Immobilien AG (DE:TEGG) which was down 1.35% to 10.970 in late trade, Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which lost 0.25% to settle at 55.760 and STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which was down 0.23% to 34.585 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which rose 10.77% to 173.250, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was up 6.04% to settle at 35.575 and Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which gained 4.23% to close at 10.590.
The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 2.59% to 26.300 in late trade, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which lost 1.98% to settle at 47.585 and QSC AG NA O.N. (DE:QSCG) which was down 1.75% to 1.462 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 499 to 185 and 36 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.58% to 26.64.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.95% or 10.40 to $1085.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.57% or 1.12 to hit $30.29 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 3.32% or 1.06 to trade at $30.82 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.32% to 1.0824, while EUR/GBP rose 0.58% to 0.7509.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.35% at 99.26.
