Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Mining and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.61% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Performance Sports Group Ltd (TO:PSG), which rose 18.72% or 0.73 points to trade at 4.63 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) added 7.59% or 0.34 points to end at 4.82 and Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TO:VII) was up 6.64% or 1.12 points to 18.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dorel Industries Inc (TO:DIIb), which lost 5.68% or 1.69 points to trade at 28.08 in late trade. Torex Gold Resources Inc . (TO:TXG) declined 5.20% or 0.090 points to end at 1.640 and Gran Tierra Energy Inc . (TO:GTE) shed 4.51% or 0.170 points to 3.600.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 684 to 600 and 323 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.31% to 21.95.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.87% or 11.00 to $1251.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.93% or 1.80 to hit $38.30 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.18% or 1.26 to trade at $40.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.19% to 0.7547, while CAD/EUR rose 1.25% to 0.6858.
The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 97.16.
