Investing.com – Nigeria equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Insurance and Food, Beverages & Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Lagos, the NSE 30 lost 0.17% to hit a new 3-year low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the NSE 30 were Unilever Nig (LAGOS:UNILEVE), which rose 10.23% or 4.08 points to trade at 40.36 at the close. Wemabank (LAGOS:WEMABAN) added 3.26% or 0.030 points to end at 0.950 and Wapco (LAGOS:WAPCO) was up 2.40% or 2.14 points to 92.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Skye Bank (LAGOS:SKYEBAN), which lost 4.38% or 0.07 points to trade at 1.52 in late trade. Diamond Bank (LAGOS:DIAMONB) declined 3.48% or 0.08 points to end at 2.22 and Union Bank LG (LAGOS:UBN) shed 3.45% or 0.20 points to 5.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 30 to 17 and 40 ended unchanged on the Lagos.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 3.15% or 1.32 to $40.53 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 2.78% or 1.24 to hit $43.20 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.92% or 9.80 to trade at $1053.70 a troy ounce.
EUR/NGN was down 0.01% to 211.140, while USD/NGN rose 0.13% to 199.210.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 100.38.
