Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction, Insurance and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.21%, while the MDAX index fell 0.96%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p), which rose 0.84% or 1.900 points to trade at 228.550 at the close. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) added 0.23% or 0.250 points to end at 110.250 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (XETRA:CBKG) was down 0.08% or 0.010 points to 12.675 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG), which lost 2.41% or 1.320 points to trade at 53.540 in late trade. Linde AG O.N. (XETRA:LING) declined 2.40% or 4.450 points to end at 180.750 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn) shed 2.35% or 0.275 points to 11.410.
The top performers on the MDAX were Aurubis AG (XETRA:NAFG) which rose 2.10% to 56.500, Kion Group AG (XETRA:KGX) which was up 1.87% to settle at 40.30 and DMG Mori Seiki AG (XETRA:GILG) which gained 1.08% to close at 31.255.
The worst performers were Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which was down 17.78% to 47.375 in late trade, Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (XETRA:WING) which lost 3.97% to settle at 35.760 and Kloeckner & Co SE NA (XETRA:KCOGn) which was down 3.82% to 8.552 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which rose 9.28% to 5.120, Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) which was up 2.05% to settle at 39.770 and Dialog Semiconductor (XETRA:DLGS) which gained 1.77% to close at 44.620.
The worst performers were Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which was down 5.65% to 47.355 in late trade, QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which lost 3.92% to settle at 1.815 and Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which was down 3.81% to 153.900 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 518 to 217 and 31 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.05% to 21.94 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.20 to $1191.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.21% or 1.80 to hit $57.96 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.45% or 2.17 to trade at $64.89 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.81% to 1.0812, while EUR/GBP rose 0.69% to 0.7183.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.70% at 97.56.
