Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Electric Power and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 10.04% or 0.25 points to trade at 2.74 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) added 5.39% or 0.89 points to end at 17.40 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was up 5.37% or 0.55 points to 10.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3), which lost 2.06% or 0.58 points to trade at 27.54 in late trade. Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) declined 1.87% or 0.40 points to end at 20.95 and Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) shed 1.44% or 0.81 points to 55.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 206 to 118 and 22 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.04% to 33.00.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.96% or 12.60 to $1331.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.60% or 1.19 to hit $44.56 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 0.03% or 0.05 to trade at $147.32 .
USD/BRL was up 0.55% to 3.2803, while EUR/BRL rose 0.72% to 3.6163.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 96.94.
