Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Food & Beverages and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.18%, while the MDAX index added 0.88%, and the TecDAX index added 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 3.42% or 0.365 points to trade at 11.030 at the close. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) added 1.38% or 0.113 points to end at 8.312 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) was up 0.84% or 0.800 points to 95.490 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which lost 3.00% or 0.405 points to trade at 13.080 in late trade. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) declined 0.83% or 0.700 points to end at 83.860 and Merck KGAA O.N. (DE:MRCG) shed 0.78% or 0.690 points to 87.630.
The top performers on the MDAX were Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which rose 3.55% to 36.000, Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (DE:ZILGn) which was up 3.12% to settle at 22.635 and GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which gained 2.61% to close at 38.000.
The worst performers were Osram Licht (DE:OSRn) which was down 1.73% to 39.650 in late trade, Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which lost 1.61% to settle at 11.945 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 1.18% to 47.620 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which rose 6.99% to 27.305, SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was up 4.58% to settle at 47.220 and Kontron AG O.N. (DE:KBCG) which gained 4.46% to close at 2.977.
The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 4.84% to 30.070 in late trade, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which lost 3.13% to settle at 55.410 and Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was down 2.92% to 41.525 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 452 to 230 and 31 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.43% to 23.32.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 1.26% or 13.40 to $1075.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.99% or 1.49 to hit $35.86 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.75% or 1.06 to trade at $37.66 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.01% to 1.0930, while EUR/GBP rose 0.23% to 0.7283.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 98.28.
