Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Healthcare and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dominion Diamond Corp (TO:DDC), which rose 22.04% or 2.53 points to trade at 14.01 at the close. Intertain Group (TO:IT) added 8.84% or 0.74 points to end at 9.11 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was up 6.44% or 0.31 points to 5.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included B2Gold Corp (TO:BTO), which lost 5.77% or 0.090 points to trade at 1.470 in late trade. Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG) declined 5.56% or 0.40 points to end at 6.79 and Encana Corporation (TO:ECA) shed 5.23% or 0.36 points to 6.52.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 725 to 713 and 207 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.01% to 17.71.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.80% or 8.60 to $1072.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.02% or 0.36 to hit $36.17 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.12 to trade at $36.23 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.21% to 0.7177, while CAD/EUR fell 0.14% to 0.6552.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 98.21.
