Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.24% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Marcopolo SA (SA:POMO4), which rose 4.70% or 0.11 points to trade at 2.45 at the close. Tractebel Energia SA (SA:TBLE3) added 3.29% or 1.18 points to end at 37.00 and CETIP SA - Mercados Organizados (SA:CTIP3) was up 3.03% or 1.06 points to 36.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which lost 6.24% or 0.27 points to trade at 4.06 in late trade. ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) declined 5.08% or 0.06 points to end at 1.12 and Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) shed 4.61% or 0.48 points to 9.93.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 197 to 122 and 6 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.61% to 31.37.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to $1099.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.00% or 0.01 to hit $50.72 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.79% or 1.00 to trade at $126.28 .
USD/BRL was down 0.72% to 3.1726, while EUR/BRL rose 0.26% to 3.4720.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.78% at 97.41.
