China shares lower at close of trade; Shanghai Composite down 1.61%

Investing.com – China equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Life Insurance, Retailers and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Shanghai, the Shanghai Composite declined 1.61%, while the SZSE Component index declined 1.96%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Shanghai Composite were China Shipping (SS:601866), which rose 10.06% or 0.790 points to trade at 8.640 at the close. Tianjin Quanye (SS:600821) added 10.06% or 0.890 points to end at 9.740 and Ba Yi Steel (SS:600581) was up 10.05% or 0.820 points to 8.980 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Xinri Hengli (SS:600165), which lost 10.02% or 2.110 points to trade at 18.950 in late trade. Joincare (SS:600380) declined 10.02% or 2.450 points to end at 22.010 and Luyin Invest (SS:600784) shed 10.02% or 1.610 points to 14.460.

The top performers on the SZSE Component were AVIC Aircraft Co Ltd (SZ:000768) which rose 4.45% to 29.12, ZTE Corp (SZ:000063) which was up 4.17% to settle at 27.22 and BOE Technology Group Co Ltd (SZ:000725) which gained 3.58% to close at 4.63.

The worst performers were Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co Ltd (SZ:002236) which was down 6.83% to 34.76 in late trade, Jilin Aodong Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd (SZ:000623) which lost 6.23% to settle at 38.50 and Beijing Originwater Technology (SZ:300070) which was down 5.45% to 43.55 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 705 to 254 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The CBOE China Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Shanghai Composite options, was up 5.39% to 32.67.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.34% or 4.10 to $1207.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.79% or 0.46 to hit $57.77 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.25 to trade at $63.70 a barrel.

USD/CNY was up 0.09% to 6.2019, while EUR/CNY fell 0.12% to 6.6895.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 97.70.
