Proactive Investors - Wales has become the first country in the UK to join the metaverse, as it looks to attract new tourists by showing off its attractions and experiences virtually.

Visit Wales, the tourism body, has created a virtual experience which can be viewed by some of the 600 million annual users of the Metaverse.

Spatial, the metaverse platform developer, is hosting the Welsh immersive offering.

Creators of the experience also claimed it is the first European nation to use this tactic to market itself as a holiday destination.

"By showcasing some of the best Wales has to offer visitors in this incredibly innovative way, we're putting Wales in an online sphere where millions of people already meet every day,” said Hannah Blythyn, Wales’ tourism minister.

Users who access the Wales metaverse will be able to take part in quests including building a task list filled with real-life Welsh-centric activities.

While the metaverse is helping tourism boards, it hasn’t quite had the same reception from Meta Platforms Inc investors.

Since Facebook (NASDAQ:META) went all in on the metaverse, changing its name to Meta, it has burnt billions upon billions of dollars into growing the technology.

Reality Labs, which is the home of the Metaverse, continues to suffer heavy losses year on and in Meta’s most recent quarter, it posted a loss of more than US$3 billion, with little year-on-year improvement.
