Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Manufacturing and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX rose 1.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were MTS (MCX:MTSS), which rose 5.63% or 13.40 points to trade at 251.50 at the close. AFK Sistema (MCX:AFKS) added 4.31% or 0.740 points to end at 17.890 and Aeroflot (MCX:AFLT) was up 4.05% or 3.20 points to 82.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DIXY Group ao (MCX:DIXY), which lost 1.55% or 4.90 points to trade at 311.00 in late trade. PhosAgro ao (MCX:PHOR) declined 1.11% or 31.0 points to end at 2756.0 and Surgut-pref (MCX:SNGS_p) shed 1.09% or 0.480 points to 43.725.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 129 to 88 and 23 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 1.39% to 35.560.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.25% or 15.50 to $1259.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.66% or 0.66 to hit $40.38 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.91% or 0.80 to trade at $42.74 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 0.72% to 66.6423, while EUR/RUB fell 0.75% to 76.062.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.30% at 93.94.
