Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Insurance, Food & Beverages and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.31%, while the MDAX index declined 0.07%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which rose 1.08% or 0.37 points to trade at 34.48 at the close. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) added 0.67% or 0.560 points to end at 84.160 and Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) was up 0.62% or 0.170 points to 27.600 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which lost 3.10% or 0.319 points to trade at 9.966 in late trade. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) declined 2.58% or 3.000 points to end at 113.200 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) shed 2.18% or 0.132 points to 5.914.
The top performers on the MDAX were Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which rose 3.39% to 49.890, RTL Group SA (DE:RRTL) which was up 1.66% to settle at 73.960 and Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) which gained 1.35% to close at 53.370.
The worst performers were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which was down 3.86% to 16.055 in late trade, Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which lost 2.50% to settle at 28.300 and Duerr AG (DE:DUEG) which was down 2.25% to 74.350 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which rose 2.72% to 24.000, Slm Solution G (DE:AM3D) which was up 1.62% to settle at 42.70 and Software AG O.N. (DE:SOWG) which gained 0.76% to close at 37.175.
The worst performers were Suess Microtec NA O.N. (DE:SMHNn) which was down 3.34% to 6.300 in late trade, SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which lost 1.76% to settle at 27.280 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 1.63% to 3.632 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 547 to 342 and 27 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.89% to 19.59.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.07% or 14.35 to $1329.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.61% or 1.66 to hit $44.27 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.57% or 1.71 to trade at $46.22 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.42% to 1.1207, while EUR/GBP fell 0.69% to 0.8612.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 95.47.
