Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Industrials and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO:BAD), which rose 14.80% or 3.90 points to trade at 30.25 at the close. Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (TO:PBH) added 7.26% or 6.53 points to end at 96.42 and Capital Power Corporation (TO:CPX) was up 3.64% or 0.92 points to 26.21 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which lost 5.04% or 0.070 points to trade at 1.320 in late trade. Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) declined 4.89% or 0.110 points to end at 2.140 and Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) shed 4.71% or 0.12 points to 2.43.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 581 to 489 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.19% to 13.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.47% or 6.09 to $1287.91 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.68% or 1.31 to hit $47.51 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.78% or 1.45 to trade at $50.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.39% to 0.7858, while CAD/EUR fell 0.07% to 0.6667.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 93.31.
