Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Utilities and Construction sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.53%, while the MDAX index gained 0.17%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 2.04% or 0.169 points to trade at 8.435 at the close. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) added 0.94% or 0.145 points to end at 15.560 and Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) was up 0.33% or 0.35 points to 107.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG), which lost 1.52% or 3.10 points to trade at 200.20 in late trade. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) declined 1.40% or 1.110 points to end at 77.970 and Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) shed 1.16% or 1.85 points to 157.50.
The top performers on the MDAX were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which rose 1.97% to 4.55, Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which was up 1.42% to settle at 31.130 and Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which gained 1.22% to close at 30.805.
The worst performers were Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which was down 2.45% to 40.29 in late trade, Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which lost 1.75% to settle at 50.650 and Suedzucker AG (DE:SZUG) which was down 1.52% to 20.990 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which rose 6.79% to 12.660, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was up 3.95% to settle at 9.823 and S&T AG (F:SANT1) which gained 3.28% to close at 10.790.
The worst performers were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 5.05% to 91.890 in late trade, Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which lost 1.87% to settle at 26.470 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 1.43% to 23.405 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 386 to 354 and 22 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.92% to 16.72 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.67% or 8.45 to $1249.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.51% or 0.26 to hit $51.29 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.34 to trade at $54.51 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.11% to 1.0659, while EUR/GBP fell 0.42% to 0.8541.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 100.53.
