Proactive Investors - Wizz Air Holdings PLC (LON:WIZZ) has reported a jump in passenger numbers over the course of March, aided by the relaunch of flights to Israel.
Just shy of 4.8 people million travelled with the FTSE 250-listed airline over the month, marking a 12% increase year on year, Wizz said in a statement.
Flights to Tel Aviv, Israel restarted from six bases in the meantime, with further routes set to reopen in April, May and June.
These had been shut in early October after the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, which Wizz said accounted for around 6% of its capacity at the time.
Wizz had previously unveiled plans to restart flights to Israel from Budapest, Sofia, Bucharest, Krakow, London and Rome from early March though.
Capacity for the month had been close to 5.3 million seats, which was 13.6% higher than a year ago, but meant average load factors were 1.3% lower at 90.8%.
Looking ahead, Wizz said it had announced special flights for the 2024 UEFA Euros in Germany, with demand likely to be boosted by fans travelling to the football tournament.
