Proactive Investors - A new megapub is to be opened by JD Wetherspoon PLC (LON:JDW) at London Waterloo station next week following a £2.8 million investment.
Situated in the former Eurostar terminal at the station, the FTSE 250 pub chain said The Lion & The Unicorn is named after a pavilion at the 1951 Festival of Britain.
The pub will have created 70 new jobs when it opens next Tuesday.
Spoons founder and chairman Tim Martin recently claimed that each individual ‘Spoons pub generated tax income for the state of around £7 million over the last 10 years, as well as employment and social benefits.
Martin, who also last month netted himself close to £10 million after selling shares in the budget pub chain, said the previous Tory government had failed to implement "tax equality" between pubs and supermarkets, which had led to thousands of pub closures and underinvestment in the sector.
