Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Financials and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.24%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.20%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 2.03% or 3.58 points to trade at 179.99 at the close. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) added 1.95% or 0.95 points to end at 49.48 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) was up 1.41% or 0.56 points to 40.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which lost 1.21% or 3.95 points to trade at 321.44 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 0.62% or 2.16 points to end at 343.48 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 0.61% or 2.56 points to 418.47.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:DXCM) which rose 3.16% to 74.65, Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which was up 3.12% to settle at 377.23 and Tapestry Inc (NYSE:TPR) which gained 3.06% to close at 40.40.
The worst performers were Amcor (NYSE:AMCR) which was down 3.69% to 10.45 in late trade, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which lost 2.85% to settle at 16.88 and Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYSE:CMG) which was down 2.78% to 52.47 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Eightco Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:OCTO) which rose 487.42% to 1.63, Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) which was up 268.54% to settle at 17.69 and GeoVax Labs Inc (NASDAQ:GOVX) which gained 110.75% to close at 7.06.
The worst performers were Moringa Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:SLXN) which was down 79.32% to 1.95 in late trade, Hyzon Motors Inc (NASDAQ:HYZN) which lost 27.75% to settle at 0.05 and Avalon Globocare Corp (NASDAQ:ALBT) which was down 25.96% to 0.33 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1743 to 1067 and 107 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1875 rose and 1428 declined, while 144 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.82% to 14.80.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 2.14% or 53.30 to $2,545.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.91% or 1.49 to hit $76.67 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.60% or 1.30 to trade at $79.74 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.47% to 1.10, while USD/JPY fell 1.11% to 147.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 102.28.
