Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Automobiles & Parts and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 16.77% or 6.77 points to trade at 47.14 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 2.18% or 4.70 points to end at 220.70 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) was up 1.72% or 118.0 points to 6992.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which lost 5.16% or 6.64 points to trade at 122.16 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 4.79% or 10.00 points to end at 198.60 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 4.41% or 96.00 points to 2083.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1501 to 608 and 159 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.37% or 6.90 to $1896.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.68% or 0.28 to hit $40.79 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.43 to trade at $42.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.32% to 1.2779, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.9106.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 94.377.
