Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the General Industrial, Automobiles & Parts and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 3.91% or 91.0 points to trade at 2417.0 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 3.24% or 14.20 points to end at 452.70 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) was up 1.87% or 1.12 points to 61.02 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 7.57% or 12.30 points to trade at 150.10 in late trade. Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) declined 7.51% or 107.50 points to end at 1324.50 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 5.61% or 52.2 points to 878.8.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1568 to 593 and 151 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.45% or 8.40 to $1876.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.13% or 0.05 to hit $39.98 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.09 to trade at $41.68 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.33% to 1.2765, while EUR/GBP fell 0.21% to 0.9143.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 94.352.
