Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV), which rose 7.93% or 282.0 points to trade at 3839.0 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 3.85% or 14.77 points to end at 398.27 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) was up 1.26% or 17.60 points to 1411.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 5.55% or 156.0 points to trade at 2657.0 in late trade. DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) declined 5.11% or 20.73 points to end at 384.77 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 4.31% or 67.75 points to 1504.25.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1602 to 718 and 74 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.45% or 26.80 to $1824.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.93% or 1.57 to hit $52.00 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 3.00% or 1.69 to trade at $54.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.79% to 1.3579, while EUR/GBP rose 0.29% to 0.8905.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 90.683.
