Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Software & Computer Services and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.93%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which rose 6.88% or 10.60 points to trade at 164.60 at the close. Next PLC (LON:NXT) added 4.38% or 189.00 points to end at 4503.00 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) was up 4.18% or 13.50 points to 336.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 5.98% or 440.00 points to trade at 6915.00 in late trade. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) declined 3.89% or 31.50 points to end at 779.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 3.62% or 49.00 points to 1303.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1056 to 938 and 146 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.86% or 11.17 to $1283.73 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.50% or 0.87 to hit $57.12 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.42% or 0.90 to trade at $62.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.62% to 1.3428, while EUR/GBP fell 0.52% to 0.8827.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 93.16.
