Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Household Goods & Home Construction and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 3.69% or 45.50 points to trade at 1280.00 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) added 2.93% or 52.00 points to end at 1828.00 and Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) was up 2.60% or 9.00 points to 355.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB), which lost 4.06% or 245.00 points to trade at 5784.00 in late trade. Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) declined 3.41% or 181.00 points to end at 5123.00 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) shed 3.01% or 58.00 points to 1870.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1144 to 899 and 297 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.07% or 0.95 to $1284.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.81% or 0.96 to hit $52.05 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.67% or 1.03 to trade at $60.47 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.81% to 1.3062, while EUR/GBP fell 0.50% to 0.8721.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 95.743.
