Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the General Industrial, Mobile Telecommunications and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 4.71% or 2.07 points to trade at 46.04 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 3.48% or 35.5 points to end at 1054.5 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was up 2.93% or 72.0 points to 2529.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 3.56% or 8.90 points to trade at 241.10 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 3.51% or 3.70 points to end at 101.80 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) shed 3.07% or 8.20 points to 258.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1178 to 1009 and 163 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 2.11% or 40.75 to $1973.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $43.04 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.22 to trade at $45.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.98% to 1.3328, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.8920.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 92.418.
