Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 2.31% or 71.0 points to trade at 3143.0 at the close. NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) added 1.71% or 0.13 points to end at 7.59 and Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) was up 1.61% or 4.40 points to 278.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 5.36% or 11.22 points to trade at 198.18 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 5.08% or 51.30 points to end at 959.20 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 4.88% or 44.40 points to 865.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1288 to 920 and 232 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.97% or 37.60 to $1872.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.16% or 0.11 to hit $68.72 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.22 to trade at $71.13 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.46% to 1.4103, while EUR/GBP fell 0.20% to 0.8598.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.67% at 90.505.
