Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB), which rose 2.67% or 9.40 points to trade at 361.50 at the close. JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD) added 2.20% or 2.25 points to end at 104.65 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) was up 1.74% or 7.00 points to 408.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Frasers Group PLC (LON:FRAS), which lost 3.63% or 24.00 points to trade at 638.00 in late trade. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 3.41% or 38.50 points to end at 1,090.50 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 3.14% or 86.00 points to 2,656.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 988 to 779 and 667 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.48% or 12.71 to $2,661.11 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.27% or 0.87 to hit $67.43 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.10% or 0.79 to trade at $71.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.08% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 105.99.
