Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Beverage, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq), which rose 2.60% or 47.00 points to trade at 1851.00 at the close. NatWest Group PLC (LON:NWG) added 2.27% or 3.70 points to end at 167.05 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 1.33% or 2.20 points to 167.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 2.96% or 34.50 points to trade at 1133.00 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 2.50% or 2.78 points to end at 108.57 and Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) shed 2.42% or 38.50 points to 1552.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1188 to 1100 and 64 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.31% or 5.85 to $1888.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $47.97 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $51.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.74% to 1.3599, while EUR/GBP fell 0.33% to 0.9040.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 89.627.
