Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Insurance, Beverage and Food Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 2.94% or 45.50 points to trade at 1595.00 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 2.84% or 3.90 points to end at 141.20 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 2.73% or 17.80 points to 668.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 2.67% or 53.50 points to trade at 1948.50 in late trade. Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) declined 2.56% or 11.20 points to end at 425.40 and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) shed 2.54% or 9.70 points to 372.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1080 to 1074 and 58 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.29% or 3.80 to $1313.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.41% or 0.25 to hit $60.17 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.81% or 0.54 to trade at $66.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.69% to 1.3596, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.8860.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 91.61.
