Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Electrical, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.22%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which rose 4.21% or 17.30 points to trade at 427.75 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 4.05% or 14.00 points to end at 360.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 4.02% or 3.86 points to 99.94 in late trade.

Biggest losers included DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which lost 4.12% or 16.90 points to trade at 392.90 in late trade. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) declined 2.91% or 42.60 points to end at 1420.40 and Informa PLC (LON:INF) shed 2.58% or 13.60 points to 514.40.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1319 to 1028 and 63 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.72% or 13.05 to $1810.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.55% or 0.33 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.44% or 0.28 to trade at $63.02 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.09% to 1.3916, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.8704.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 90.502.
