Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Aerospace & Defense, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.20% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 3.37% or 4.55 points to trade at 139.55 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 2.55% or 7.70 points to end at 310.20 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) was up 2.47% or 25.50 points to 1,056.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 4.23% or 43.30 points to trade at 980.20 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 4.21% or 26.40 points to end at 600.60 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) shed 3.47% or 48.00 points to 1,335.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1205 to 574 and 716 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.21% or 28.15 to $2,346.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.08% or 0.06 to hit $78.56 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $82.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.63% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.27% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 105.21.
