Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Food & Drug Retailers and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 14.60% or 432.00 points to trade at 3390.00 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) added 2.90% or 4.70 points to end at 166.90 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 2.90% or 37.50 points to 1331.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 11.57% or 74.50 points to trade at 569.50 in late trade. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) declined 4.09% or 12.80 points to end at 300.20 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) shed 4.05% or 9.90 points to 234.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1062 to 865 and 424 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.42% or 18.69 to $1297.71 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $50.66 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $56.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.51% to 1.3563, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8803.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 91.98.
